Madison Square Garden Disregards Morrissey's Request For All-Vegan Show
Before playing at Madison Square Garden, it was reported that Morrissey was able to come to an agreement with MSG to serve a meat-free menu for his show Saturday evening, a historic feat indeed. However, Morrissey’s wishes were not entirely respected.
As the Smith’s vocalist was singing anti-meat songs and displaying graphic PETA footage behind him, those sitting in the corporate seating were most likely mocking the singer with their pictures of meatball sliders with the stage as the background. Brisket sandwiches, chicken fingers and sushi were also served.
To be fair, MSG did have a vegetarian menu in the main floor where the majority of the crowd was. A woman named Jessica Pearson sent images to Gothamist and included a note describing the food above and what her friends on the main floor enjoyed:
This weekend I attended the Morrissey show at Madison Square Garden. Moz proudly announced that it was a historic day as Madison Square Garden went fully Vegan. Turns out it was vegan everywhere BUT the corporate suites. MSG offered up House Made Meatball Sliders, Hill Country Brisket Sandwiches, Cereal-Crusted Chicken Fingers, and Fresh Sushi Platters. Friends on the main floor ate vegan hot dogs. Thought you would find it amusing - though I’m sure Mr. Morrissey will not.
MSG did released a statement saying they, “…changed the menu in the public areas for the show on Saturday night and didn’t make the same changes in the private areas. This was an oversight and will be fixed the next time.” However, I personally don’t see there ever being a next time for Morrissey, but if Beyonce ever has the same request, I’m sure that MSG won’t make the same mistake again.
