Morrissey & PETA Team up to Create Animal Rights Themed Video Game
Remember the lyric “this beautiful creature must die” from the famous song (and animal rights anthem) Meat Is Murder by The Smiths? It is now the title of a new video game launched by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Morrissey.
The objective of the game is to save as many animals as possible, including cows, chickens, turkeys and pigs, from the blades of a slaughterhouse-with some explosives thrown in for good measure and increased difficulty. The background music is a very creative rendition of the track Meat Is Murder, and hearing it is reason enough to try out the game. According to Morrissey:
“This game is the biggest social crusade of all, as we safeguard the weak and helpless from violent human aggression. You don’t get that from Pokemon Go.”
Being described as having an “aesthetic charm” and being “addictive”, the game definitely has a retro feel to it, and can appeal to video game enthusiasts-especially those who love the classics, and those who interested in the message of saving animals from slaughterhouses, which Morrissey believes exemplify violence in our everyday lives:
“Violence is built very solidly into our society, and it is nowhere more prevalent than the despair of factory farming and the slaughterhouse-both monuments to human selfishness, and both suspiciously barred to public scrutiny.”
Try out the game here, but be warned that it can be quite addictive!
