Mainstream Publications Celebrate Vegan Celebs & World Vegan Day!
Yesterday, November 1, was World Vegan Day and it should come as no surprise that there was a lot of mainstream coverage to mark the event this year! Publications like Huffington Post UK, Bustle, and Insider all celebrated the day with features on vegan celebrities, influential vegans, and quotes praising the health benefits of the lifestyle.
While the celebrities featured were sometimes vegan-leaning rather than committed vegans, Huffington Post UK featured some great quotes by vegan and mostly vegan celebrities on the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle. They quoted Miley Cyrus stating that there are “so many good plants/fruits/veggies to eat you ain’t gotta eat dead animals! Everything that goes into my body is alive! To keep ME alive! Love this life!” and Liam Hemsworth stating “there are no negatives to eating like this. I feel nothing but positive, mentally and physically. I love it.” Arianna Grande was featured as well saying she is a “firm believer in eating a full plant-based whole food diet that can expand your life length and make you an all-around happier person.”
Bustle focused on famous quotes on veganism, credited to doctors, animal rights activists, spiritual leaders, actors, musicians and authors. An example is a quote featured by Anatole France: “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
Insider ran a story on 17 “of the most powerful plant-based eaters on the planet” that many do not realize are vegan. The list featured Stevie Wonder, Elizabeth Holmes, Samuel L. Jackson, Al Gore, Natalie Portman, and included some “cheagans” such as Venus and Serena Williams. The article named Russell Simmons as the “longest-running vegan” on their list.
World Vegan Day this year featured so much mainstream coverage celebrating the lifestyle that it hopefully inspired many more people to go veg!
