Farm Sanctuary's 2016 Gala a Star-Studded Success!
Farm Sanctuary held their annual Gala this year on Saturday November 12 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, to “celebrate 30 years of rescue, education, and advocacy for farm animals, the largest population of abused animals on the planet.”
Tracey Stewart and Emily Deschanel were the co-chairs of the fundraising event, with Kevin Nealon taking on the role of host for the evening. Some of the celebrity guests and presenters included Jon Stewart, Jeff Garlin, Daisy Fuentes, Moby, and Tony Kanal, who sported a “Meat is Murder” t-shirt by The Smiths. According to the Farm Sanctuary website, those honored included:
“Allene Lapides with the Gift of Life Award, Kat Von D with the Compassion in Action Award, Leona Lewis with the Friends, Not Food Award, and Crossroads Kitchen with the Inspiration Award on this very special evening! We are also fortunate to have Kevin Nealon joining us as our host for the evening and a special musical performance by Richard Marx.”
According to Variety, guests of the event were treated to a “100% plant-based meal custom designed by Beverly Wilshire in partnership with Gardein Executive Chef Jason Stefanko,” which included:
“Roasted tomato and fennel bisque with vegan cheddar cheese and thin cracker garnish, and triple chocolate cake and vanilla bean cake with fresh berry garnish.”
The Gala also featured a farmer’s market-style gift station, with the gifts “donated from companies to encourage guests to cut down on waste and take home the products they will use most.” You can find out more about the event on Farm Sanctuary’s website.
