Jeremy Corbyn “Going Through the Process” of Veganism
British politician, Leader of the Labour Party and long-time vegetarian Jeremy Corbyn is reportedly considering a switch to a fully plant-based lifestyle.
According to the Independent, employees at Lush cosmetics asked Corbyn if he would be making “the next logical step to veganism” since “Britain’s first vegan Prime Minister would be something worth fighting for.” The MP replied:
“It’s a fair question. I eat more and more vegan food, and have more and more vegan friends. There are quite a lot of vegan MPs actually - not a lot, but there are some. I think what has improved so much is vegetarian and vegan food has got so much better in recent years.”
After mentioning how “grim” the vegetarian options on planes used to be in the 80s, Corbyn added:
“The food has got a lot better and vegan food - one of my close relatives has just become a vegan and I went to her house for dinner and it was absolutely brilliant. So I’m going through the process, all right? I won’t go any further than that.”
A Labour Party spokesperson later noted that Corbyn actually meant that he is in the process of “eating more vegan food” rather than in the process of becoming a vegan. However, his “I won’t go any further than that” comment does leave at least a little room for interpretation!
