KFC to Trial Vegetarian Alternative to Chicken
In some surprising news featured on Mirror, KFC will be trialing meatless chicken options in the United Kingdom as soon as this year.
In a bid to “revamp its menu and remove 20 per cent of calories per serving by 2025,” the fast food chain plans to offer healthy sides, meal options under 600 calories, vegetarian chicken and low or zero calories carbonated drinks.
Head of Food Innovation for KFC UK and Ireland Victoria Robertson stated:
“We know people are more passionate than ever about eating well, and we face a big challenge in shifting their perceptions of what we offer. We’ve done it before, though – the success of our Riceboxes has shown that our fans will go for lighter options from us.”
She added:
“This is about providing choice, and offering delicious, signature KFC taste that just happens to be lighter.”
KFC’s announcement is in line Public Health England’s recent campaign to encourage people to stick to 600 calorie meals for lunch and dinner.
