Company Spotlight: Veestro
With the growing interest in nutritious food and plant-based meals, it should come as no surprise that there are vegan meal delivery services out there making these choices all the easier.
Veestro, the “leading heat and eat plant-based meal delivery service,” was launched in 2013 and has been growing steadily ever since.
For those not familiar with Veestro:
“The plant-based meal delivery service offers consumers the convenience of ready to heat-and-eat meals with a selection of over 50 a la carte meals, juices, desserts, breakfasts and more. All meals are chef created, fully prepared, 100% plant-based, made with organic ingredients and preservative free.”
Launched by a brother and sister duo, Veestro offers four different packages for customers to choose from: a la carte meals, goal-oriented meal packs, weight loss plans, or a juice cleanse. There are also one-time delivery or subscription options customers can select. All meals come with nutritional information and the company has a nutritionist in-house that is involved with the process.
Veestro prides itself on being one of the “few vegan/vegetarian solutions” that meets the “ever-growing demand” for nutritious yet convenient meals.
I recently interviewed CMO and Co-Founder Monica Klausner about the company, and I was coincidentally also able to sample a meal at the Reducetarian Summit. When I asked whether Veestro’s customer base was predominately vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian, or reducetarian, Klausner stated:
“While vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians are an important part of our customer base (more than half), we understand they already know how to eat healthy. The segment is growing rapidly, thanks to the large amount of accessible information, and the availability of products like ours that make it easier to follow that lifestyle.”
She added:
“Our goal is to help everybody eat more plants, which is why a large part of our marketing budget is dedicated to the other half that don’t want to commit to a specific diet, but understand the benefits of a plant-based diet, and want to increase their intake of vegetables in an easy and convenient way.”
After checking out some of the delicious-sounding meals, I was curious to know which were the most popular. Klausner stated:
“Vegans love our Enchilada Casserole and Beluga Lentil Braise due to their nutritional profile and large portion of veggies. Non-vegans love our Country Fried Chicken because it’s a healthy alternative to an old classic. Everybody loves our Red Curry, our most popular dish.”
I can personally vouch for the Red Curry being delicious, as that was the meal I sampled at the Reducetarian Summit. It was definitely rich, creamy and flavorful-everything you would want in a plant-based comfort dish!
While Veestro makes all meals and their components in-house, they also partner with vegan food companies for specific dishes. I was very excited to learn that one of those companies is New Wave Foods, which made our Top 10 Most Innovative Vegan Food Companies list!
I also learned that Veestro has seen a “steady growth since its start delivering delicious plant-based entrees directly to consumers’ doors.” Klausner attributes some of that to a general rise of interest in healthy/plant-based eating, adding:
“Veestro’s mission is to help people eat more plants by offering convenient meal options. Whether you are a vegan, vegetarian, meat eater, etc., we believe that eating more plants is beneficial for your health, animals and the environment.”
