Review of Munk Pack’s Vegan Protein Cookies
I’ll be the first to admit it: a lot of vegan protein bar or snack options out there can taste like—and have the texture of—Play-Doh. While they can be incredibly helpful options when you are on-the-go, you should never have to sacrifice taste for convenience.
That’s why I was particularly happy when the kind people over at Munk Pack offered to send me samples of their vegan protein cookie line, the packaging of which recently underwent a makeover (the chipmunk icon already won me over).
Each cookie boasts 18 grams of protein and the line includes four different flavors:
- Coconut White Chip Macadamia
- Double Dark Chocolate
- Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip
- Oatmeal Raisin Spice
The cookies are all vegan-certified, gluten-free, kosher and contain no soy, cholesterol, trans fats or sugar alcohols. While the word ‘cookie’ automatically made me assume I would love these protein-packed snacks, my aforementioned experience with Play-Doh-esque options kept me skeptical.
I tried the Coconut White Chip Macadamia first, assuming it would be my least favorite since I’ve never been a huge fan of white chocolate. Not only did it surpass my expectations, it is actually one of my favorites in the line, which is saying a lot since there is a double-chocolate option. It tasted like a genuine dessert, and I had to keep reminding myself it had 18 grams of protein and I wasn’t just indulging in a sweet treat. The white chocolate chips were creamy and paired perfectly with the macadamia, and the coconut in the batter took the cookie to a whole different level.
Next I had the Double Dark Chocolate, which is exactly as delicious as it sounds, although Coconut White Chip Macadamia remains No.1. It was decadent and creamy like a chocolate cake and I appreciated how plentiful the chocolate chips were. I enjoyed every last crumb.
Next up was the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. While all four cookies have the same amount of protein, this option was definitely the most filling. It was delicious and had a strong peanut butter flavor, which was a pleasant surprise considering the fact that other peanut butter-based protein snacks or shakes tend to have an artificial taste.
Finally, I tried the Oatmeal Raisin Spice. Due to its lack of chocolate, I initially wasn’t very excited about it, which is why I left it for last. But as was the case with Coconut White Chip Macadamia, I was so wrong as I was shocked by how flavorful it was. Due to the nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon blend it tasted like a soft gingerbread or ginger snap, making it tie with Coconut White Chip Macadamia for No.1.
While I have my favorites, I can honestly say I enjoyed the entire line, not only for the delicious flavor of each cookie, but also for the lack of any artificial taste or after-taste. While I don’t tend to use protein bars, shakes or snacks often in my day-to-day life, having options like Munk Pack’s Protein Cookies make it all the easier to stay satiated on-the-go–without sacrificing flavor.
